Bayfield Recreation Center

Bayfield Recreation Center

In an effort to increase funding, the Bayfield Recreation Center recently launched a "1% for Recreation Program." Participating businesses add a 1% voluntary surcharge to the subtotal of customer's bills, thereby generating funds that directly support the Rec Center and other recreational opportunities in the area. The Rec Center needed a way to effectively announce and publicize this innovative program to the community.

I worked with Rec Center director, Scott Armstrong, to develop a positive, upbeat marketing plan for the new program.

We settled on a 3-piece promotional set including: a poster, rack card, and table tent. Participating businesses could choose any combination of materials to help promote the program. Posters and rack cards were also placed in public areas to help publicize both the program and the Rec Center itself. Scott left the look of the pieces up to me.

Above all, I needed the materials to convey what a true asset the Rec Center is to our small community. I wanted locals and tourists alike to feel good about contributing to this program. So I did the obvious and featured Bayfield kids in the pool. What's that saying? A picture is worth a thousand words...

I also wanted the look of each piece to be consistent. The back of the rack card and table tent highlight the Rec Center's amenities, hours, rates, and directions.

Community response to the program has been everything the Rec Center hoped for. By making it effortless to promote, more businesses continue to climb on board and patrons seem to have little issue with donating an extra one percent to the cause.
